Santa’s Village Ice Hotel – Lapland Holidays, Rovaniemi in Winterfeatured
Santa’s Village Ice Hotel
Within the Santa’s Village in Rovaniemi there is a really fun place called Snowman World. There you can visit an Ice (Igloo) Hotel, Restaurant, and Bar. Kids will enjoy an ice slide and ice sculptures, whilst the adults contemplate spending a night in this extreme hotel. The temperature in the hotel is only just below zero. Although that is almost like a heat wave in comparison to the -30C outside, I still did not fancy the idea of sleeping in an ice cave. Having said that, I think it would have been an unforgettable experience. Apparently, you will be issued with an Arctic Night Survival Certificate in the morning! Otherwise, you are free to wander around and check out the rooms during the day.
Ice Bar
When it is so cold outside warming up with a shot of Finland Vodka starts to look like a very appealing proposition. My choice of alcoholic beverage though in Finland was always Glögi – hot spiced wine. Glögi is definitely one of the traditions of Finnish Christmas and it is similar to Glüwein that is so popular at European ski resorts.
Santa’s Village Ice HotelRooms
All rooms are individually themed and are lit in a different color. It is rather chilly inside but, don’t worry, you will be given a thermal sleeping bag! The beds are not made of ice, they are solid but the bed rests are made of ice. The walls are decorated with elaborate snow sculptures and they are amazing.
Restaurant
You can also have a full Lappish dinner in the restaurant on certain nights, it is quite pricey though and makes sure you make a booking! The ice sculptures that surround you and the crystal chandeliers make the experience somewhat luxurious and very surreal.
